Efektivitas Big Book Calendar untuk Meningkatkan Kemampuan Membaca Anak Usia Dini Usia 4-5 Tahun

Storytelling is an effective method to enhance early literacy and language development in young children. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Big Book Calendar as an innovative storytelling medium to improve reading ability among children aged 4–5 years at TK 10 November Surabaya. The Big Book Calendar, designed with large text and colorful illustrations in a calendar format, was used to attract children’s attention and stimulate their reading motivation. This study employed a qualitative approach through direct observation and interviews with teachers and the school principal. The findings reveal that the Big Book Calendar effectively increased children’s reading engagement, word recognition, and comprehension. Children demonstrated enthusiasm and improved focus during reading activities, showing progress even when assistance was required. Teachers also acknowledged the media’s potential for enhancing literacy development, despite its limited availability. Therefore, the Big Book Calendar can serve as an innovative and practical tool to support reading readiness in early childhood education.
Abstrak
Mendongeng merupakan metode efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan literasi dan perkembangan bahasa anak usia dini. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis efektivitas media Big Book Kalender sebagai inovasi dalam kegiatan mendongeng untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca anak usia 4–5 tahun di TK 10 Nopember Surabaya. Big Book Kalender dirancang dengan teks besar dan ilustrasi berwarna dalam bentuk kalender yang menarik perhatian anak dan menumbuhkan motivasi membaca. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif melalui observasi langsung dan wawancara dengan guru serta kepala sekolah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Big Book Kalender efektif meningkatkan keterlibatan anak dalam membaca, pengenalan kata, dan pemahaman isi cerita. Anak menunjukkan antusiasme dan fokus yang lebih baik selama kegiatan membaca, meskipun sebagian masih memerlukan bantuan guru. Guru juga mengakui potensi media ini dalam mengembangkan literasi anak, meski ketersediaannya masih terbatas. Dengan demikian, Big Book Kalender dapat menjadi media inovatif dan praktis untuk mendukung kesiapan membaca pada pendidikan anak usia dini.
